At AAMI, professionalism, personal responsibility, and ethical conduct are at the core of everything we teach.
Our community expects students to act with maturity, courtesy, and respect; on campus, online, and in all interactions as future funeral service professionals.
Code of Conduct
Enrollment at AAMI signals a commitment to integrity, maturity, and ethical behavior. All students are expected to uphold the values outlined in the Funeral Service Oath and conduct themselves in a way that reflects positively on AAMI and the funeral service profession. Misconduct may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or dismissal, as determined by the Director of Student Services and the Faculty Council.
AAMI promotes a culture of academic honesty. All students are required to sign an Academic Integrity Statement, which remains in effect for the duration of their enrollment. Cheating, plagiarism, and other violations are addressed seriously and may result in disciplinary consequences.

Dress Code
AAMI maintains a professional dress code that reflects industry standards. Students are expected to arrive on campus neat, clean, and appropriately dressed. Clothing such as jeans, sweatpants, t-shirts, and athletic wear is not permitted. Personal grooming is also considered an important part of professional development.

Computer & Technology Use
AAMI’s technology infrastructure is available to students and alumni (by approval) for academic research, classwork, and resume preparation. Full usage policies are outlined in the Student Handbook (Appendix F). Misuse of technology may result in suspension of access or disciplinary action.
Audit Policy
Students may register to audit a course (no credit or grade awarded) on a space-available basis, with approval from the Registrar and course instructor. Audit status must be declared in the first week of class and cannot be changed afterward.
Fee: $100 per audited course
Disability Accommodations
Students with disabilities, including pregnancy-related needs, should contact the Disability Officer (Director of Student Services) to request accommodations. AAMI is committed to providing reasonable adjustments that do not impose undue hardship or pose safety risks.
Library & Lounge Use
- The library is a quiet study space where select books, journals, and materials are available for in-library use only.
- Borrowing requires a valid AAMI or government-issued ID. Overdue fines apply.
- Photocopying services are available for a nominal fee.
- Food and beverages are prohibited in classrooms and labs. Students may use the lounge to eat but must clean up after themselves to maintain this privilege
Academic Progress & Status
AAMI reviews Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) each semester. Depending on results, students may be assigned:
- Academic Warning
- Academic Probation (requires an Academic Plan)
- Academic Dismissal (may be temporary or permanent)
Repeated failure to meet SAP standards affects financial aid eligibility and can result in dismissal. Students returning after dismissal must follow a reinstatement process and meet defined academic conditions.
Repeat Course & Academic Forgiveness Policy
Students may repeat courses in which they earned a D or F. While the original grade remains on the transcript, only the new grade is factored into the GPA. All repeated courses count toward attempted credit totals for SAP purposes.
Students’ Bill of Rights
AAMI affirms the rights of all students, including but not limited to:
- Due process and equal treatment under the law
- Freedom from harassment or discrimination
- Access to academic records and privacy
- Protection from retaliation after reporting misconduct
- Participation in fair, impartial disciplinary processes
- The right to an advisor during conduct hearings
For the full list of 16 specific rights, refer to the Student Handbook.
Substance Abuse & Alcohol Policy
In compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, AAMI annually distributes policies on alcohol and drug use, including:
- Prohibited behaviors
- College and legal consequences
- Health risks
- Resources for counseling and treatment
Violations may result in suspension or dismissal from the institution.
