AAMI is committed to upholding transparency and regulatory compliance regarding student privacy, campus safety, and access to public records. This page outlines our key public information policies as required by federal and state laws.
Student Privacy & Directory Information
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), AAMI may release certain “directory information” without a student’s consent when a legitimate request is submitted in writing. This includes:
- Student’s name
- Address
- Date and place of birth
- Major field of study
- Dates of attendance
- Degrees and awards received
- Participation in official activities
- Most recent previous school attended
If you wish to keep your directory information confidential, you may submit a written request to the Registrar at any time.
Note: No other academic or personal records will be released without the student’s written consent. Students are entitled to review their academic records by request.
Academic Transcripts
Transcripts are released only upon written request by the student. AAMI does not issue transcripts without proper authorization in accordance with FERPA guidelines.
Campus Security Policy
AAMI maintains compliance with the Campus Security Act of 1990 and Public Law 101-542. Students and prospective students can find campus crime statistics at: ope.ed.gov/security
An updated report is maintained each year and is available in the AAMI Library and Administrative Office. The Advisory Committee on Campus Safety can provide this information upon request.
Weapons of any kind, including firearms or materials that can inflict harm, are prohibited on AAMI’s campus and at all instructional or service facilities, in accordance with N.Y. Penal Law 265.01(3).265.01-a.

Non-Discrimination & Harassment
AAMI has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, sexual harassment, and bias-related crimes. These protections are outlined in Appendix A of the Student Handbook, which is distributed to all students and available publicly online.

Drug & Alcohol Policy
In compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989, AAMI annually distributes detailed information regarding:
- The school’s substance abuse and alcohol policies
- College and criminal sanctions for violations
- Health risks of drug and alcohol abuse
- Available counseling and treatment resources
This policy applies to all students and employees and is enforced year-round.
Disability Services
Students with disabilities, including pregnancy-related needs, are encouraged to contact AAMI’s Disability Officer to request accommodations. AAMI will provide reasonable accommodations that do not impose undue hardship or create safety risks, in accordance with federal law.
Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis with a custom plan created for each student’s needs.
Notification of Rights under FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) affords eligible students certain rights with respect to their education records. An “eligible student” under FERPA is a student who is 18 years of age or older or who attends a postsecondary institution at any age. These rights include:
- The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days after the day AAMI receives a request for access. A student should submit to the Registrar a written request that identifies the record(s) the student wishes to inspect. The school official will make arrangements for access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected.
- The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the student believes is inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA.
A student who wishes to ask AAMI to amend a record should write to the Registrar clearly identifying the part of the record the student wants changed, and specify why it should be changed.
If AAMI decides not to amend the record as requested, AAMI will notify the student in writing of the decision and the student’s right to a hearing regarding the request for amendment. Additional information regarding the hearing procedures will be provided to the student when notified of the right to a hearing. - The right to provide written consent before AAMI discloses personally identifiable information from the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent under the following conditions:
- The disclosure is to school officials who have been determined to have legitimate educational interests in order to fulfill their professional responsibility. A school official is a person employed by AAMI in an administrative, supervisory, academic or research, or support staff position (including law enforcement unit personnel and health staff); a person serving on the Board of Trustees; or a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee. A school official also may include a volunteer or contractor outside of AAMI who performs an institutional service or function for which AAMI would otherwise use its own employees and who is under the direct control of the school with respect to the use and maintenance of personally identifiable information from education records, such as an attorney, auditor, contractor, consultant, volunteer, or collection agent or a student volunteering to assist another school official in performing his or her tasks. A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill their professional responsibilities for AAMI;
- Other schools to which a student is transferring;
- Specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes;
- Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student;
- Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of AAMI;
- Accrediting organizations;
- To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena;
- Appropriate officials in cases of health and safety emergencies; and
- The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by AAMI to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is:
U.S. Department of Education
Student Privacy Policy Office
400 Maryland Avenue, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20202
Students can also file a FERPA complaint electronically here.
The U.S. Department of Education requires complaints to be filed within 180 days of the alleged violation or within 180 days after the complainant knew or reasonably should have known of the alleged violation.
