Withdrawing from a course or program can have important implications for your academic progress, financial aid eligibility, and graduation timeline. It’s essential to understand how these decisions may affect your transcript and future enrollment status.
AAMI provides clear, structured guidelines for online course withdrawals to help you make informed choices. This includes key deadlines, transcript notations, refund eligibility, and how withdrawal may impact your federal aid or satisfactory academic progress.
Our goal is to ensure you have the information you need before making any changes to your enrollment.
Dropping A Course (No Transcript Impact)
Important: Dropping below 6 credit hours may affect your financial aid. Speak with your Academic Coordinator or the Financial Aid Office before making changes to your schedule.
Courses may be dropped during the initial weeks of the semester without appearing on your transcript.
Course Credit Hours | Drop Deadline |
---|---|
3 credits | Within first 2 weeks |
2 credits | Within first 2 weeks |
1 credit | Within first week |
Withdrawal Without Penalty (“W” Grade)
- A “W” does not affect GPA
- No formal approval required during this period, but consultation with your Academic Coordinator is encouraged
Students can withdraw from online courses without academic penalty (a “W” on transcript) during the following periods:
Course Credit Hours | Withdrawal Window |
---|---|
3 credits | Weeks 1-5 |
2 credits | Weeks 1-3 |
1 credit | Weeks 1-2 |
Late Withdrawal (Requires Review)
Late withdrawal may be permitted with proper documentation of extenuating circumstances.
Withdrawals after these timeframes without valid documentation will result in a grade of “F” on your transcript.
Course Credit Hours | Late Withdrawal Period |
---|---|
3 credits | Weeks 6-10 |
2 credits | Weeks 4-6 |
1 credit | Weeks 3-4 |

Full Online Program Or Semester Withdrawal
If you’re enrolled in the online degree program and plan to withdraw from all courses:
- Notify the Registrar before the semester begins to avoid any charges
- If withdrawing after classes start, notify the Registrar immediately via phone or email
- Each full-semester withdrawal is evaluated individually, especially if courses have staggered end dates
- Students withdrawing for medical reasons must submit supporting documentation
Financial obligations still apply. Check with the Financial Aid Office to understand how withdrawal may affect your aid.
Campus Course & Academic Semester Withdrawals
Students enrolled in AAMI’s campus-based program who need to withdraw from a course or the semester must follow specific procedures to remain in good academic standing.
Campus-based students may:
- Withdraw from the program until the end of Week 6 with a written notice to the Registrar
- Receive a “W” on transcript for courses withdrawn before the deadline
- Receive an “F” if written notice is not provided
Appeal for a withdrawal after Week 6 only with documentation of extenuating circumstances
