Below is a list of external scholarship programs available to eligible students enrolled in accredited mortuary science programs, including those offered through AAMI.
Note: All scholarship programs listed below are administered by third-party organizations. Eligibility requirements, deadlines, and application instructions vary by provider. We encourage students to review each opportunity carefully and apply early.


NYS Tribute Foundation
The NYS Tribute Foundation supports mortuary science students who are residents of New York State. Eligible applicants include first- and second-year students, online students, and those pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mortuary science.
Key awards:
Order Of The Golden Rule (OGR)
OGR provides Awards of Excellence scholarships to students nearing the completion of their mortuary science degree. Selection is based on:
- Strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA)
- Funeral service experience
- A compelling essay on serving grieving families with compassion, fairness, and dignity
Applications are due annually by January 31st. Students must be scheduled to graduate within the same calendar year.


National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA)
This award honors the legacy of Joseph E. Hagan, a distinguished funeral director known for arranging services for prominent U.S. leaders, including President John F. Kennedy.
The Joseph E. Hagan scholarship supports mortuary science students nationwide; application details are published on the Funeral Service Foundation website.
Service Corporation International (SCI)
SCI awards over $50,000 in annual scholarship funds to 30 outstanding mortuary science students.
Applicants should demonstrate commitment to the profession and academic excellence.
Deadline: December 12th at 11:59 P.M. (PST)


American Board Of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE)
This long-standing program offers awards ranging from $500 to $2,500, applied directly to tuition.
- Open to students enrolled in accredited funeral service/mortuary science programs
- Students may apply once per calendar year
- Deadlines: March 1st and September 1st
All applications must be submitted using the new online form.
New Jersey Funeral Service Education Corporation (NJFSEC)
Designed for New Jersey residents enrolled in mortuary science programs.
- Awards based on academic performance and dedication to funeral service
- Applicants must be starting or continuing mortuary school in the fall semester
- Deadline: June 28th (subject to change based on the application cycle)


Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA)
The CFDA offers $1,000 scholarships to students planning to work in Connecticut after graduation.
Eligibility requires enrollment in an accredited mortuary science program and a clear intent to serve the public in Connecticut upon completing your education
