The History Of AAMI
AAMI’s legacy traces back to five funeral education institutions in New York City:
- Renouard Training School for Embalmers (1895)
- McAllister School of Embalming (1926)
- New York School of Embalming and Restorative Art (1930)
- Collier School of Embalming
- American Academy of Embalming and Mortuary Research (1933)
Following World War II, several schools merged. In 1964, the McAllister School and the American Academy combined to form today’s AAMI.
Since then, we’ve educated over 10,000 funeral service professionals, many of whom are first-generation students entering the field.
